It’s true. This is my first St. Valentine’s Day as a divorced woman. The fact that I am newly single with no sweetheart to grant my Valentine Wish seems kind of a downer doesn’t it? Truthfully, I don’t care that I don’t have a sweetheart for Valentine’s Day. I have a lot of love in my life.
Instead, I thought it would be fun to do a little Google scavenger hunt on Valentine’s Day. I brainstormed 10 top Google ranked Valentine’s Day phrases, typed each in the Google Search and looked at result number 100 for each (10th result on page 10). I’m a recently divorced woman. When it became clear I could not save my marriage, I made the choice to divorce. Over the last eight months, my emotions have run the gamut from anger, relief, elation, empowerment, anger and yes, even anxiety and depression, and more anger. Morbid curiosity caused me to click the link for the article I’ve included under our Oprah Power link heading below. Fear, compassion, and kinship filled my heart as I read Susan Klebold’s words.
Who is Susan Klebold? Does her name sound familiar to you? It should. Her son Dylan was one of the pair that wreaked havoc at Columbine High School in Littleton Colorado 10 years ago.
As I read through her confession tears began to well in my eyes and my chest became tight. I remember where I was when I heard on the news of this terrible tragedy. This hit especially close to me because I lived in Littleton for a while growing up. My sister graduated from Columbine High School. I know the street, the neighborhood and the types of families that live in this suburb of Denver, CO.

Today is our 6 year wedding anniversary. Today is a sad day for me. In 4 days our divorce will be final. That will be a sad day for me as well.
Four months ago I was a very angry woman. I felt powerless, walked upon, unappreciated and worthless. The manner in which we interacted with one another made me feel like that. I longed for a little bit of kindness, honesty, nurturing and love from you. I received neglect, dishonesty and apathy.
Today I am much happier. Today I love and nurture myself. I don’t wait to receive it from you.

Today I’m trying very hard to remember to conduct myself with grace and dignity. Anytime I get overwhelmed with my emotions, I practice my deep breathing and pray to God for Grace and Dignity. I do this because I know that I have the black beast lurking right there on my shoulder, ready to take me down that ugly emotional highway. You know the one…you say things you don’t mean, you get all worked up and suddently you have become this raving lunatic that doesn’t remotely resemble anyone that you would recongnize?

I love that poem. Hope is eternal, right? Hope carries you through life’s storms. It keeps you warm when you’re out of your element and Hope gives, it does not receive. When you have Hope you have Faith; and with Hope and Faith you can accomplish a lot.
I recently read in the Oprah Newsletter of this courageous woman named Tererai Trent. Her story is called Hope in a Box.
