Morbid curiosity caused me to click the link for the article I’ve included under our Oprah Power link heading below. Fear, compassion, and kinship filled my heart as I read Susan Klebold’s words.
Who is Susan Klebold? Does her name sound familiar to you? It should. Her son Dylan was one of the pair that wreaked havoc at Columbine High School in Littleton Colorado 10 years ago.
As I read through her confession tears began to well in my eyes and my chest became tight. I remember where I was when I heard on the news of this terrible tragedy. This hit especially close to me because I lived in Littleton for a while growing up. My sister graduated from Columbine High School. I know the street, the neighborhood and the types of families that live in this suburb of Denver, CO.

Today is our 6 year wedding anniversary. Today is a sad day for me. In 4 days our divorce will be final. That will be a sad day for me as well.
Four months ago I was a very angry woman. I felt powerless, walked upon, unappreciated and worthless. The manner in which we interacted with one another made me feel like that. I longed for a little bit of kindness, honesty, nurturing and love from you. I received neglect, dishonesty and apathy.
Today I am much happier. Today I love and nurture myself. I don’t wait to receive it from you.

Here’s what is important about October. And you won’t find this on the cover either so it’s a good thing you stopped to read. October is National Domestic Violence Awareness Month. If you want to read the magazine for anything at all, read it for this. I’m sure it’s buried deep within the bowels of the magazine.

Oprah talks about having all five dogs in her room when she adopted the puppies, Luke, Layla, and Gracie. “I had all five dogs in the room and the three different crates, and they all pooped at different times,” Oprah says. I’ve always said that mothering is the hardest job on earth. Even with puppies.”

When Whitney said, “Because I wasn’t going to be in an unholy matrimony. I wasn’t going to be living with a man who decided that he didn’t want to live the same way I did or thought about marriage or me the same way,” I wondered how she knew exactly how I was feeling at that point in my marriage.

She said something that I thought was so telling during the study group taping with Oprah. She said (I’m paraphrasing) that Paradise only exists because others are excluded. Paradise is not open to all of us. In other words, if everyone could get in, Paradise wouldn’t be held in the same esteem.
